What is the congregation like?

The “average” person at Runnells Christian Church is hard to pin down, because our congregation has such a variety of people! We’re a mix of young and old, families and singles, blue-collar and white-collar, some longtime members plus many new members and visitors.

What should I wear?

You can dress up or be casual, but whether you’re wearing jeans and tennis shoes or prefer to be dressed up, you’ll fit in!

What kind of songs do you sing?

Traditional organ hymns plus some modern music.

What do you “do” during worship?

Our Sunday morning services include: singing songs of praise to God; greeting those around us and welcoming visitors; hearing a message based on the Bible presented by the pastor; communion; passing around offering plates to accept donations for the financial needs of the church (as a visitor, you should feel no obligation to put anything in the offering plate—simply pass it down the pew); praying for those in the congregation in need of prayer; praying together the Lord’s Prayer; and receiving the benediction (or “blessing”) from the pastor at the end. Sometimes you’ll experience special events like baptism or confirmation, or hear the choir sing. Worship services last about 1 hour, and a little longer than that on some special Sundays. Bibles are supplied in every pew, so just grab one to look up the Bible passage of the day, or feel free to bring your own Bible.

Can I worship at Runnells Christian Church if I’m not Disciples of Christ?

YES, you are welcome no matter what your background is!

What is the sermon/message like?

Sermons are presented as a Bible-based message from specific passage of the Old or New Testament. He gives background and context for the passage, show how the passage points to Jesus as our savior, and teach how it applies to being a Christian today.

Can my child(ren) join me at worship service?

Absolutely! In fact, we encourage you to keep your child with you during the whole worship service. If you feel you need to take your young child out of the service, you can use our “nursery” to you comfort your child. You can use the toys, rocking chairs, and changing table as needed. During the service, the nursery is staffed and your pre-elementary aged child can remain in the nursery with our caregivers if you desire to return to the sanctuary for worship. During Sunday School time, children ages 3 and older are welcome to join a class to study God’s Word.

What other activities can we attend?

On Sundays, there’s Sunday School at 9:15 a.m. for children ages 3 and older, AND for adults as well.
